The Green Titanite Butterfly features a titanite from Madagascar that weighs 13.83 carats. It is set in textured 18k white gold with 18k yellow gold accents along with smaller green titanite gems and vivid blue hauyne gems from Germany for the eyes. Gem quality titanite, also known as sphene, can be found in shades of yellow, green, brown or red with a resinous to adamantine luster. Faceted stones are known for their pronounced dispersion or “fire." The Green Titanite Butterfly is part of a collection of 18 jeweled butterfly brooches created and designed by Elvis " Buzz" Gray and Bernadine Johnston. The butterflies were gifted to the National Gem Collection by the Smithsonian Gem and Mineral Collectors.
