Beryl (var. morganite) | NMNH G11785 | Brazil, Minas Gerais | 1377.00 ct |
Gift of Smithsonian Gem and Mineral Collectors in 2020.
This magnificent morganite from Minas Gerais, Brazil displays a beautiful orangish-pink color. At 1,377 carats this fancy cushion-cut gem is the largest morganite in the National Gem Collection. Faceted by Buzz Gray, it is the sister stone to the 448.64 carat morganite, mined from the same gem pocket. It is a major upgrade for the Collection not only because of the size, but also because of the beautiful color, clarity, and cut. This morganite was donated by the Smithsonian Gem and Mineral Collectors in 2020.
