Pyromorphite | NMNH 171200 | United States, Idaho |
Pyromorphite is mined as an ore of lead and prized by collectors for its colorful crystals. It is a lead chlorophosphate and typically occurs as prismatic to acicular crystals. Pyromorphite forms in vivid shades of green, yellow, orange, brown and even colorless with a resinous luster. The crystals form interesting aggregates and have been found in many localities including France, Germany, England, Australia, China and the United States.
